In the UK, by mid-2016 BP and Dupont will finish mothballing their joint Kingston Research Ltd facility in Saltend that hosts its biobutanol pilot plant following what the oil company terms as a successful completion of the research program. It says the mothballing of the facility does not impact its focus on biobutanol, its joint venture Butamax or its ethanol investments in Brazil. The news of 44 people who will lose their jobs, most of which were seconded from either BP or Dupont but includes 13 contractors, came as a tough blow just before Christmas.
