Spanish company receives patents for 2G biodiesel from glycerin

December 23, 2015 |

In Spain, the European patents office has approved a Europe-wide patent for InKemia IUCT Group’s production process that creates second-generation biodiesel from glycerin through 2033. The patent was developed as part of the European-funded 2G Biofuel project that saw trials of the fuel pass the EN590 standard at up to 20% blending. The company claims the project demonstrated production costs for the fuel are lower than production costs for traditional biodiesel. This is the company’s 68th patent.
