UK’s liquid biofuel consumptions falls 21% in Q3

In the UK, liquid biofuels consumption during the third quarter fell by 21 per cent to 382 million liters in 2015 Q3 from 485 million liters in 2014 Q3 with a 35 per cent decrease in biodiesel. During the period this year, liquid biofuels represented 3.3 per cent of gasoline and diesel consumed in road transport, down from 4.2 per cent a year earlier.

During the third quarter, ethanol consumption fell by 3.3 per cent, to 205 million litres in 2015 Q3 from 212 million litres in 2014 Q3 while biodiesel consumption fell to 177 million litres, down 96 million litres (35 per cent), during the same period, but it actually increased from the second quarter of 2015 Q2 by 25 million litres (16 per cent).

Ethanol contributed the largest share of biofuels consumption during the period, flipflopping with biodiesel held the majority share for five years but has been taken over by ethanol for the third successive quarter, with 54 per cent. Biodiesel represented 46 per cent of biofuels consumption.
