DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol to wind down demo facility in Tennessee

In Tennessee, DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol LLC and The University of Tennessee Research Foundation is closing down its jointly developed demonstration biorefinery in Vonore. The project was awarded $70.5 million in support from the state in 2007 while the company says it has invested $85 million. The 250,000 gallon per year facility was designed to help the company scale up its cellulosic ethanol technology which has been achieved with the commissioning of the 30 million gallon per year facility in Nevada, Iowa. As a result, the company says the Vonore facility is no longer needed and will be shutdown in order to streamline operations.
