Uruguay’s first ever biofuel export sees 100,000 liters of UCO biodiesel off to the Netherlands

December 29, 2015 |

In Uruguay, Alcoholes del Uruguay has secured the country’s first biofuel export with 100,000 liters of used cooking oil-based biodiesel heading to the Netherlands. The fuel was to Argos sold at $750 per metric ton via the company’s Brazilian arm. The UCO is collected from the cities of Canelones, Maldonado and Montevideo via smart container systems and collection services. The sale came on the heels of last week’s reduction in biofuel blending to 5% for both ethanol and biodiesel from 10% and 7% respectively despite the country having sufficient installed production capacity to meet the mandates.
