Hawaii to still have ethanol-blended gas despite state law

In Hawaii, despite a new state law that came into effect on Friday that eliminates the ethanol blending mandate due to the high cost of importing ethanol, Hawaii Independent Energy will still supply blended fuel in order to comply with the Renewable Fuel Standard. The refiner must blend or buy RINs and believes that blending is more economically viable than purchasing the RINs required to comply with the law. Motorists may be able to fine ethanol-free gasoline, but as with other states, it will be more expensive.
