POET to expand Hudson ethanol plant for second time in a year

January 4, 2016 |

In South Dakota, POET plans to expand its ethanol plant in Hudson for the second time in a year despite the Environmental Protection Agency not increasing the ethanol blending mandate for corn-based ethanol, indicating the economics for the facility’s expansion merit the investment without policy support. Currently the facility produces 60 million gallons per year but expansion could eventually take that above 73 million gallons annually. However, this current phase will only add another 5 million gallons of capacity.
