US ethanol production tops 1 million barrels per day as 2016 reporting gets underway

In Washington, according to EIA data as analyzed by the Renewable Fuels Association, ethanol production averaged 1.003 million barrels per day (b/d)—or 42.13 million gallons daily. That is up 7,000 b/d from the week before and the second-largest total on record. The four-week average for ethanol production stood at 991,000 b/d for an annualized rate of 15.19 billion gallons. This is the third time in the last eight weeks that production has topped the 1 million b/d mark.

Stocks of ethanol stood at 21.3 million barrels. That is a 1.2% increase from last week and the highest since March 2015. Gasoline demand for the week averaged 357.0 million gallons (8.500 million barrels) daily. Refiner/blender input of ethanol averaged 807,000 b/d, slightly below year-ago levels. Expressed as a percentage of daily gasoline demand, daily ethanol production was 11.80%.
