Nearly 300,000 gallons of ethanol leak in the Mississippi after Arkansas barge crash

January 18, 2016 |

In Arkansas, nearly 300,000 gallons of ethanol have fallen into the Mississippi River following a barge collision with a bridge outside Helena. Authorities were able to salvage about 2 million gallons on ethanol before it too fell into the river. About 18,000 gallons of ethanol fell into the river in Wisconsin when a train derailed, and there was no environmental damage found. The volume in this spill was substantially larger and is being monitored by the Coast Guard.
