Food safety regulations a shifting target for biodiesel industry seeking to comply

In Washington, changes to the Food Safety Modernization Act expected this spring as well as the current policy must be complied with not only by biodiesel producers whose glycerin may end up in the food and feed market, but also grease collectors and distributors will soon have to begin toeing the line. Only some of the regulations associated with the 2011 law have been released by the Food and Drug Administration, with more coming out in the spring, making it difficult for producers to achieve compliance because there are still many unknowns that could make the process lengthy, clumsy and expensive.
