In New Zealand, Z Energy’s 20 million liter biodiesel plant from animal tallow is getting closer to its June commissioning date when it will become the country’s biggest producer. Despite low oil prices, the facility’s economics will still work, if only barely with thin margins. It will begin blending 5% into diesel it sells and has signed on companies such as Fonterra to commit to using the blended fuel. The company plans to double production capacity to 40 million liters at a later stage.
