December corn consumption for ethanol slightly higher over November but down on year

In Washington, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says corn consumption for ethanol production reached 444.5 million bushels in December, up 2% over the previous month but down 3% from the year-ago period. Nearly 89% of the corn was used in dry milling while the remaining was from wet milling. Corresponding production for DDGS was also up 2% from November and down 3% from December 2014. Sorghum for ethanol production was up significantly from November at 7.62 million hundredweight compared to 5.62 million hundredweight, and radically more than December 2014 when just 889,000 hundredweight was consumed.
