Louisiana State Police cites REG for mishandling hazardous materials at Geismar

February 4, 2016 |

In Louisiana, state police have cited the Renewable Energy Group with a civil violation of careless handling of hazardous material for a hydrogen gas explosion in September at the Geismar facility that injured four people. It was the second explosion during a five-month period. The citation can carry up to a $10,000 fine but that was waived and only a warning letter was issued. The police didn’t cite the first explosion in April so the September explosion is only considered to be the first one. OSHA is still investigating both explosions.
