Market share for soy oil rises to 77% as Brazilian biodiesel feedstock

February 8, 2016 |

In Brazil, soy oil continues to be the feedstock of choice, with 77% of all biodiesel produced in 2015 coming from soy oil, up from 75% in 2014. A total of 3.9 billion liters were produced during the period, 15% more than the previous year. The boost in soy oil as a feedstock comes as a result of the country’s bumper soy crop last year that kept prices low. Beef tallow, the second-most popular feedstock—fell one point to 19% in 2015 as a result of fewer cattle slaughtered.
