Ethanol and biodiesel biggest boons for Missouri’s checkoff programs

In Missouri, biofuels have been the big payoff for investments from crop checkoff programs, with ethanol providing a major market for corn through support form the corn checkoff program and biodiesel providing a market for soybeans through the soybean checkoff program. With corn producers yielding double the corn they did 20 years ago when the checkoff program began, finding new markets for the extra supplies was a major necessity and ethanol offered the demand center the supplies could fill.
