Fire at Agrileum biodiesel plant causes evacuation but no personal or environmental damage

March 21, 2016 |

In Tennessee, a methanol leak at the Agrileum biodiesel plant caught fire on Friday, forcing the evacuation of employees but no injuries were reported nor does there seem to have been immediate environmental impacts as a result. It took nearly 90 minutes to put the fire out because the 2,500 gallon methanol tank was behind other tanks, making it difficult to access. The state’s environmental and public works departments have ordered inspections as follow up to the blaze.
