India developing new department to focus on clean public transport

March 23, 2016 |

In India, the government is sorting out its new transport department that will focus on clean public transport with buses running on ethanol, biodiesel, biogas and even electric vehicles all in an effort to reduce the government’s fuel costs. The new structure will work closely with green funds in order to facilitate the investments on a state-by-state basis. Currently public transport is state-owned and operated but there is talk about encouraging private sector investment through a PPP model.
