Brazilian ethanol prices fall as crush ramps up but more support for anhydrous

April 6, 2016 |

In Brazil, hydrous ethanol prices fell 10% in a week to $1.71/gal while anhydrous fell by less than 3% at $2.07/gal due to a rapid influx of supplies on the market as the sugarcane crush ramps up. With mills online earlier than usual, demand for imports from the US during the inter-harvest period will slump off earlier than usual as well. Liquidity in the market is limited as blenders buy only what they need to in order to comply with blending mandates, which call for more anhydrous than hydrous and therefore providing more price support.
