Ecopetrol gets Malaysian patent for renewable diesel technology

In Malaysia, the country’s patent-making authority has given a grant to Colombia’s Ecopetrol for producing renewable diesel via hydrotreatment known as Biocetano that results from adding hydrogen to vegetable oils and animal fats. The technology was developed by the Colombian Petroleum Institute. The company has already secured a patent for the technology in Colombia while applications have been filed in the United States, Brazil, Europe and Indonesia. The final product doesn’t contain sulfur nor aromatics.
