In Cambodia, a $360 million sugar mill owned by a Chinese food conglomerate has come online, bringing along with it 50 million metric tons of ethanol production annually, all meant for shipment to China. The 500,000 tons of sugar to be produced will be shipped to European and Chinese markets. The project is the first of a three-phase investment that will eventually reach $1 billion and span across 60,000 hectares. The mill is the largest in the country.
