April Sofiproteol to cut biodiesel production in light of fading demand

April 21, 2016 |

In France, April Sofiproteol announced it will cut its biodiesel production in light of lower expected demand at just 928,000 metric tons this year compared to 1.5 million tons last year. Demand is falling due to a combination of higher rapeseed prices, instability in the demand structure from instable European biodiesel blending policies, ever-more competitive drop-in biomass-based diesels and overcapacity of biodiesel in the European market. The company didn’t say by how much exactly it will reduce production this year.
