Peru accuses Argentina of dumping biodiesel

April 21, 2016 |

In Peru, the country’s biodiesel industry has alerted authorities that Argentina is dumping biodiesel on market through imports facilitated by Repsol and Petroperú to the tune of $500 million to $600 million of imported biodiesel. The fuel is arriving $200 to $250 per metric ton cheaper than locally-produced fuel, which the industry claims is subsidized by the Argentine government. Industry has filed three cases with the competition authorities over the case. They claim that if refiners purchased domestic biodiesel that it would promote further oil palm production and encourage farmers to produce palm oil instead of coca leaves.
