Republicans propose bill to scrap tax credits for animal fat biodiesel

April 21, 2016 |

In Washington, seven Republican US Representatives led by Randy Weber of Texas have submitted a bill to disallow certain biodiesel and alternative fuel tax credits for fuels derived from animal fats which has since been sent to the House Committee on Ways and Means as it deals with the tax code. While animal fat biodiesel is double-counted in Europe and promoted as a preferred feedstock due to being a waste, the feedstock has been a target for legislators since at least 2008 to try to reduce competition for what is seen as limited animal fat supplies that could be used for other processes than fuel.
