Fiberight needs another 73,000 tons of MSW committed for Maine facility

May 3, 2016 |

In Maine, communities now have until June 30 to pledge their MSW to Fiberight’s planned facility in Hampden after only 75 communities representing 78,000 tons of garbage per year signed up before the May 1 deadline. That’s about half of what is required to making the facility economically viable. Currently 187 communities send 200,000 tons of trash to the Penobcot Energy Recovery Co. incinerator in Orrington but those contracts expire in 2018, opening the door for energy recover from the MSW.
