In Brazil, ethanol production rose 6% last year to 30 billion liters with a demand increase of 34% for hydrous ethanol that jumped on the back of higher gasoline prices after the government shifted its pricing policy. As a result of the policy shift, gasoline demand fell 7%. Biodiesel also increased in 2015 to 3.9 billion liters, up 15% on the previous year. A good harvest mixed with supportive biofuel policies are behind the production and consumption increases.
