Bihar distillery switches over to ethanol production following alcohol ban

June 27, 2016 |

In India, just 10 weeks after alcohol was banned in Bihar, already Sati Organics Private Limited has shifted to ethanol production from potable alcohol, keeping its 250 employees on board. Though the distillery’s alcohol production capacity is much higher, it will begin with about 120,000 liters of ethanol production. Sugar mills have had a difficult time supplying enough ethanol to achieve the country’s new 10% blending mandate, finally able to supply 5% after struggling to ramp up production from less than 3%.
