KPMG sees major opportunity for crop waste as ethanol feedstock in SE Asia

June 29, 2016 |

In Singapore, KPMG says crop waste from rice, sugarcane and palm oil could prove to be good feedstocks for boosting ethanol production in the Southeast Asian region. On the palm side, both palm kernel cake from pressing oil from the seeds as well as empty fruit bunches and tree trunks could prove viable for second-generation biofuel production technologies. Indonesia alone potentially has nearly 270 million metric tons of biomass available for biofuel production, have of that coming from palm oil waste streams.
