Svebio says Brexit could provide more policy freedom for biofuels

June 30, 2016 |

In Sweden, Svebio says that Brexit may be a way for European countries to obtain more independence for their own policymaking, allowing them to go a bit more out on their own. In this case, the biofuels association is referring to going beyond European Union regulations on biofuels taxation, where state aid rules forbid providing too many tax incentives to biofuels for fear of an unfair playing field for fossil fuels, as an example. Another example is ILUC, where the association says the European policymaking experiment went too far making policy far more difficult rather than simplifying it and ensuring sustainability.
