Thai fuel fraudsters making a mess of ethanol and biodiesel sales

June 30, 2016 |

In Thailand, fraudsters are making a fortune by selling illegal fuel blends throughout the northern and southern parts of the country, typically at non-brand fueling stations. Instead of E10, some are selling E20 because ethanol is cheaper than gasoline and therefore making several cents profit per liter. On the diesel side, low quality diesel is being sold blended with Euro 4 standard diesel in place of biodiesel because the diesel is cheaper than the biodiesel, again making several cents per liter of profit. Several ministries are now banding together to better monitor and stop the racketeering.
