Ethanol producers have until Jan. 1 to comply with EPA’s Tier 3 rules

July 18, 2016 |

In Washington, the Renewable Fuels Association is flagging the need for producers to get a head start on their sulfur content reporting that becomes mandatory from Jan. 1 thanks to EPA’s Tier 3 rules that were published two years ago. Though ethanol typically falls under the 10 parts per million (ppm) standard for sulfur content, producers must still prove compliance. The RFA says it’s pretty much a bureaucratic exercise but it still has to be done. Producers have pretty much complied with the standard since 2003 when California implemented the 10 ppm rule.
