Investment in Polish biofuel industry constrained by surplus production capacity

July 18, 2016 |

In Poland, the USDA estimates further investments in biofuels are unlikely as the market is currently oversupplied with production. Installed production capacity for ethanol is currently around 511,000 metric tons at 11 plants around the country, 80% of which is produced from corn. Only about 200,000 tons is produced at the moment, despite a 7.1% blending mandate heading towards 10% in 2020. About 800,000 tons of biodiesel is produced from rapeseed oil, most of which is domestic but is supplemented with imports.
