EERE plans to issue funding opportunity for optimization of fuels and engines

July 25, 2016 |

In Washington, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) intends to issue, on behalf of the Bioenergy Technology Office (BETO) and Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO), a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Co-Optimization of Fuels and Engines.”  The FOA will be restricted to U.S. Institutions of Higher Education (as defined in 20 U.S.C. § 1001, and in accordance with 2 C.F.R § 200.55), and non-profit research institutions that operate as a division under the U.S. Institutions of Higher Education.

This FOA will support the Co-Optimization of Fuels and Engines (Co-Optima) initiative, a collaborative initiative being pursued by BETO and VTO to accelerate the introduction of affordable, scalable, and sustainable high-performance fuels for use in high-efficiency, low-emission engines. This first-of-its-kind effort brings together multiple DOE offices, national laboratories, and industry stakeholders to simultaneously conduct tandem fuel and engine R&D and deployment assessment in order to maximize energy savings and on-road vehicle performance, while dramatically reducing transportation-related petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
