Dung Quat ethanol plant mothballed following unpaid debts of $58 million

July 26, 2016 |

In Vietnam, the Dung Quat ethanol plant has been mothballed following unpaid debts of $58 million. The facility has suffered heavy losses since its commissioning in 2012, never gaining a proper foothold on the market despite its potential to be a major player producing 100 million liters annually. Drivers have not responded to government support to buy E5, leaving ethanol producers with unwanted supplies on hand. Four other of the country’s seven ethanol plants have shut down.
