Lightning sets fire to 10,000 stover bales at DuPont’s Nevada plant

August 8, 2016 |

In Iowa, a lightning strike set fire to some of DuPont’s stover bale storage at its cellulosic ethanol plant in Nevada on Friday night. An estimated 10,000 bales have been burned. The facility uses an estimated 700,000 bales of stover per year at full production. As of Monday, though the fire is out it is still smoldering and is a risk to other bales and buildings. A new fire crew was sent to the scene on Monday to ensure the fire didn’t flame back up.
