UCO could make a major dent in reducing future oil imports in India

In India, state-owned oil companies are set to make announcements later this week about intended biofuels investments in line with the new policies the government is setting out. Ahead of that, the head of the panel tasked with identifying biofuel opportunities pointed towards the 2 million metric tons of biodiesel that could be produced annually from UCO but the challenge will be in setting up infrastructure to collect and reuse the oil. The country consumes as much as 22 million tons of edible oil annually.
