Indian sugar industry wants excise duty exemption on ethanol reinstated through December

August 23, 2016 |

In India, the sugar cooperative industry met with the finance minister earlier this week to demand that the exemption of 12.36% excise duty on ethanol resume immediately due to the fact that only 750 million liters of ethanol out of a total 1.3 billion liters have been delivered to oil marketing companies for the 2015/16 crop year. The fuel will be delivered by December so the industry wants the remaining 55 million liters still outstanding to also be excise duty exempt. The government notified an early expiry to the exemption on Aug. 10.
