Germany looking at US native plant as key to biogas feedstock sustainability

In Germany, the biogas industry is investigating the use of Silphie, known as Indian Cup in its native US, as a potential feedstock as an alternative to corn. A perennial plant that can grow for 20 years, field trials have shown that the crop has a number of potential benefits compared to corn thanks to being bee friendly and requiring no chemical treatments. The hardy plant is in the same family as the daisy and can grow to be 10 feet high.
