Michigan power plant passing hydrogen-chloride due to railroad tie feedstock

In Michigan, the Warden Power Plant in L’Anse has come under fire for using railroad ties as feedstock for power production because of the apparent high levels of hydrogen-chloride that is emitted from the facility. A number of other compliance issues need to be sorted out including feedstock storage, but members of the public and the Department for Environmental Quality are urging the plant to return to natural gas for power production rather than biomass.
