ICCT slams LUC emissions of Indonesian biodiesel policy

September 15, 2016 |

In Washington, the ICCT has hit out hard at Indonesia’s plan to boost its biofuel blending policy, showing analysis that the carbon dioxide emissions associated with land use change far outweigh any potential GHG emissions reductions that the biodiesel as such would create. In fact, it says the B30 planned for 2020 would boost carbon dioxide emissions by 52 million metric tons rather than reduce them by 30 million tons as expected from the biodiesel replacement. For 2015 with the B7 blend, it estimates an increase of 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions rather than a 1 million ton decrease.
