Irish ethanol plant seen back online in November following major fire

September 27, 2016 |

In Ireland, Carbery’s cheese whey-based ethanol plant in West Cork is expected to come back online in November following a fire three weeks that forced the plant to shut and will require up to €2 million in investments to get going again. A fire erupted on the roof when, according to investigations so far, ethanol likely leaked on to light fittings near the 90ft building’s top level. Management said the facility’s non-return valves worked very well, potentially saving the entire plant from going up in flames.
