European Commission creating biofuel policies based on emotive arguments too

October 19, 2016 |

In Belgium, one of the European Commission’s top biofuels policymakers has said that the body doesn’t just take science into consideration when developing rules for biofuels but also takes into consideration more emotive rather than factual concerns of citizens. An example of this non-science based rulemaking is in response to the food versus fuel debate, which she referred to as being purely emotive. Indirect Land Use Change has been another challenging debate because measuring it is not science based, and therefore basing policy on shifting calculations is a difficult game.
