AEBIOM’s 2016 statistical report shows 13% of bioenergy consumed came from biofuels

In Belgium, the European Biomass Association AEBIOM’s 2016 statistical report showed that the European Union’s 28 member states consumed 14.14 kilo tons of oil equivalent of biofuels in 2014, accounting for about 13% of total European bioenergy consumption. Of the total, 11.3 ktoe was biodiesel and the remaining 2.65 ktoe was ethanol. The vast majority of consumption, 73%, came from bioheat. The study also showed that biofuels accounted for 110,350 direct jobs that year, more than 22% of total bioenergy jobs.
