Kenya’s illegal ethanol trade woes continue with senior officials under investigation

October 27, 2016 |

In Kenya, following last week’s discovery of illegal ethanol diversion to the domestic market of ethanol intended for export linked to the family of the former prime minister, it was announced that several senior politicians are being investigated for illegal ethanol imports. The identities of said politicians remain under wraps until the investigations are completed and official criminal charges can be filed. The country has been trying to implement an ethanol blending mandate for the better part of a decade by lack of policy infrastructure to facilitate such blending keeps the gazetted policy from being put into place.
