Great Green Fleet fighting ISIL in the Persian Gulf

October 31, 2016 |

In the Middle East, the US Navy has deployed its Great Green Fleet to support the fight against ISIL, led by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, a 38-year-old Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. One of Eisenhower’s observations was that oil dependency was a key driver to Hitler’s failure, similar to the dependence ISIL has on petrodollars, so the Navy is fighting with military force as well as philosophy. The USS Mason is carrying more than 15,000 gallons of standard F76 equivalent algae-based and UCO-based jet biofuel to the region following an at-sea fueling by the Italian oiler Etna.
