Green Plains sees tight global ethanol market in 2017

November 3, 2016 |

In Nebraska, Green Plains says stronger ethanol demand next year will outstrip US surplus to export, leading to a tighter market that will in turn support prices. With 1 billion gallons in exports seen in addition to 14.85 billion gallons of domestic ethanol consumption, demand should outstrip the 15.8 billion gallons the industry may be able to squeeze out next year. With Brazil’s ethanol production expected to shrink thanks to high sugar prices, the market should be structurally short.
