Brazilian company to mothball standalone ethanol plant in favor of sugar

November 10, 2016 |

In Brazil, Usaçúcar has decided to mothball its standalone ethanol distillery in São Tomé in southern Paraná state during the next crush starting in April in favor of diverting the sugarcane to its 10 mills in the state that can switch between sugar and ethanol production, giving it the opportunity to cash in high sugar prices. The company is also building a mill in neighboring Mato Grosso do Sul. The group crushes 1.15 million tons per year and all 1.48 million tons of sugar it produced was exported.
