Argentine biodiesel production seen at 2.5 million tons this year

In Argentina, production is expected to hit 2.5 million metric tons this year with much of the 1.5 million of those tons exported headed to the US. Thanks to exports, the industry is expected to earn about $1.2 billion in foreign exchange. But even so, only about 55% of the production capacity will be used this year, opening up opportunities to boost production and exports significantly. Even though the industry is beginning to recover after losing market access in the European Union, those benefiting from exports are predominantly larger players rather than SMEs.
