In India, in addition to the government’s push to promote second generation biofuels from waste, as many as 24 waste-to-energy projects are currently under development to produce 233MW of power that will help to increase production by six-fold from the current 53MW installed when added to the new 79MW of installed capacity that have just been tendered. The country is working hard to reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels that reached 202 million metric tons in 2015/16.
