Vancouver goes for biogas heating but supplies not enough

November 30, 2016 |

In Canada, Vancouver has approved a new building policy requiring new builds from May 1, 2017 to reduce GHG emissions by 50% and use biogas for heating. Though British Columbia has major opportunities to produce biogas from existing resources, the industry is only likely able to increase production by 10 billion cubic feet per year. The province’s current natural gas demand is 210 billion cubic feet per year. Technology providers are currently testing pilots to produce bio-methane from wood that could be an option for the region.
