In Nigeria, the country’s jatropha association says that in order to achieve the goals set for compliance with COP21, Africa’s largest population would need to consume 2.4 million liters of biodiesel daily, or roughly a 20% blend with existing diesel consumption. The association hopes to have 100,000ha of jatropha planted by 2017 and a total of 2.5 million ha in the next five years. The ministry of petroleum resources is currently developing a policy that is meant to stimulate biodiesel production and consumption.
